Alpine Mountaineering and Technical Leadership - Part 3 |
 |
|
Mt. Waddington is among the most remote, beautiful, and seldom seen climbs in North America. Dylan Taylor
- Take one or all three parts of this course: 12, 24, or 36 days
- Take the course in one year or over the course of two or three years.
- Complete all 3 parts & receive certification in Alpine Mountaineering Leadership.
Part 3 Expedition Climbing and Leadership
The final portion of the Alpine Leadership Program is an expedition into one of three major North American ranges: the remote and spectacular Pickett Range in the North Cascades; the remarkable granite rock spires that rise from complex, heavily glaciated terrain of Bugaboo Provincial Park in British Columbia; or the rugged, dramatic, and seldom climbed Mt. Waddington in the British Columbia Coast Range. Each area has a different emphasis.
This program offers the unique opportunity for participants to co-lead an expedition. The first day is used for the organization of equipment and for food planning and purchase. The expedition serves as a finale to the leadership program because it brings together all the logistical skills, climbing techniques, and mountain judgment learned and practiced in Parts 2 and 3 in an even bigger scale, more complex, and more challenging environment.

Program Summary & Certification
AAI's Alpine Mountaineering and Leadership program has been described by National Accreditation Reviewers as the most practical and complete course devoted to technical mountain leadership being offered in America. As we noted in our description of Part 2, the curriculum is designed to establish in participants sound judgment in the complex alpine environment as well as a high level of technical ability on rock, snow, and ice.
It is our primary goal that upon completion of the program you will be able to function successfully as an alpine climbing leader at an intermediate or more advanced level. Successful graduates receive certification in Alpine Mountaineering Leadership.
